Why choose Philip?

For the very best outcome possible

Consultant Knee Surgeon Professor Philip Chapman-Sheath has over 20 years of experience in investigating, managing and treating both adult and adolescent knee injuries and degenerative arthritis conditions.

He has a worldwide reputation for being excellent in his field and is renowned for the high-quality outcomes his patients enjoy.

Proven clinical excellence

When deciding which knee surgeon you want to treat either yourself or your family, it is crucially important that you are fully informed about their individual outcome data and the type of procedures they regularly perform.

Across the world, evidence has consistently demonstrated that the best results of a particular surgery are delivered by knee surgeons who perform the largest number of a particular operation and are therefore considered an expert. This is particularly true in both partial and total knee replacement surgery.

Revision Surgery

Revision surgery is far more complex than any primary or ‘standard’ surgery and is often performed to compensate for a previous failed or loose implant or to correct the undesirable or poor results following previous unsuccessful surgery performed by other surgeons.

Philip performs over 4x more
revision surgeries than the national average and twice as many knee replacements

Best in Class

Philip was recently voted by other highly regarded knee surgeons as one of the top 15 specialist knee replacement surgeons in the UK, putting his surgical results in the top 1% in the country.

Internationally Renowned

Philip’s published outcomes for all primary and revision knee replacements remain consistently above the national average, which is illustrated in The National Joint Registry (NJR) website.

Highly qualified teams

The type of follow-up care a patient receives can also have a highly significant impact on the success of knee treatment.

Philip Chapman-Sheath has identified and works closely with Wessex Specialist Physio, a group of highly qualified senior physiotherapists who work out of the Hampshire Wellbeing Centre at the Ageas Bowl and are considered the best specialists in their field. They each regularly treat top sporting athletes and they have all achieved an advanced clinical specialist level in physiotherapy with at least 20 years of experience and significant post-qualification training.

Philip’s Channel Island patients receive their personalised rehabilitation physiotherapy from the highly experienced, Louise Augre whose clinic, Augre Physiotherapy, is based at the Lido Medical Centre, Jersey.

In addition to these expert physiotherapists, Philip has developed specialist surgical teams at the Spire Southampton, Wessex Nuffield Hospital in Chandlers Ford, Hampshire and Lister Hospital in London – ensuring the highest quality of treatment from the entire team.

A unique level of compassion
and understanding

Having undertaken an additional undergraduate Honours degree in Psychology during his many years of training.

This helps Philip to personally understand and identify common psychological factors in managing and treating patients, many of which are associated with disability and pain intensity, such as depression and anxiety – to ensure a holistic and personalised approach to treatment regimes.

Sporting Success

Philip has personally achieved both National and International sporting success.

Having represented both England and Great Britain in Target Rifle Shooting and also whilst competing at the 2011 World Aikido Championships – giving him a unique understanding of the mindset and requirements of treating high level sports injuries and the importance of a personalised treatment pathway for each patient to achieve a rapid and full recovery back to their competitive sports participation.

Philip regularly treats high level sports patients from both professional and amateur teams in a wide range of sports across the South of England and abroad and in addition, has for many years been involved with the treatment of high performance military personnel for the UK Armed Forces.
